Each year, as the holidays draw near, Shelton begins its familiar transformation into a place filled with light, color, and hometown pride. The Chamber’s Beautification Program is at the heart of that seasonal magic. It brings the sparkle of Christmas to our streets in winter—much in the same way it fills downtown with cheerful flower baskets in summer. These traditions create the welcoming atmosphere that residents treasure and visitors remember, and they rely on the generosity of our community to continue.
The effort behind this transformation is larger than many people realize. Chamber staff, community volunteers, and partner organizations work throughout the year to bring these displays to life. Fresh greenery donated by Wild Greens International is used to trim Tollie and the caboose. Lights stretch across Railroad Avenue, garlands hang from lamp posts, and ornaments add a joyful touch to downtown. In the warmer months, colorful flower baskets line the street and soften the landscape. Together, these touches help shape the look and feel of Shelton, offering a warm invitation to all who spend time here.
The Beautification Program is entirely community funded. Donations from families, businesses, and civic groups make every wreath, light strand, and flower basket possible. These contributions help create a vibrant environment that supports local commerce, brightens the experience for shoppers and diners, and gives our community a sense of pride in every season.
As we complete this year’s fundraising campaign, the Chamber is still working to close the final gap toward its 20,000 dollar Beautification Program goal. Your support now will determine how many flower baskets bloom next summer and how fully we illuminate the streets during the holidays. Every contribution helps preserve these traditions and ensures they continue to grow.
