Chamber Designated Neighborhood Champion for Small Business Season 2026

Published on

The Chamber is proud to once again champion the Shop Small movement, celebrating Small Business Season from November 1 through December 31. As an American Express Neighborhood Champion, the Chamber joins organizations across the country in encouraging residents to support local businesses throughout the holiday season. This annual campaign highlights the vital role small businesses play in our community and reinforces the Chamber’s commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs and business owners.

Small Business Season is about more than shopping; it’s about supporting the dreams and livelihoods of our neighbors. Each purchase at a small business creates a ripple effect, supporting local jobs, strengthening our economy, and fostering connections throughout the community. When you choose to shop, dine, or do business locally, you’re investing in more than a product or service; you’re investing in people.

As part of Small Business Season, the Chamber also participates in Small Business Saturday, a nationwide initiative that encourages consumers to support local businesses during the holiday season. Since its inception in 2010, shoppers have spent more than $241 billion at small businesses on Small Business Saturday. The day has grown into a movement that helps small businesses reach new customers, connect with their communities, and share what makes them unique. This year, Small Business Saturday falls on November 28, 2026.

According to the 2025 American Express Small Business Economic Impact Study, 68 cents of every dollar spent at a small business stays within the local community, supporting jobs, local suppliers, and additional economic activity. The benefits extend beyond the economy, as local businesses also support schools, nonprofits, and community initiatives through sponsorships, donations, and volunteerism. With many small business owners continuing to navigate economic challenges, this community support remains essential.

Chamber President & CEO Deidre Peterson encourages shoppers to make the most of this season:

Our local businesses need your support. We know that rising costs are affecting households and businesses alike, making every purchasing decision that much more important. Choosing to shop, dine, and do business locally whenever possible helps sustain jobs, strengthen our economy, and support the businesses that contribute so much to Mason County.

According to the 2025 American Express Shop Small Impact Study, 95% of surveyed small business owners agree that community support keeps them thriving. Small Business Saturday offers an important opportunity to turn that support into action, helping businesses connect with customers and build momentum during the holiday season. The message is clear: when you choose local, every purchase has a purpose.

The Chamber invites everyone to take part in Small Business Season by exploring local shops, restaurants, and service providers. Discover meaningful gifts and one-of-a-kind treasures, enjoy dining experiences close to home, and share your favorite finds on social media using #ShopSmall. According to the American Express study, 75% of consumers say recommendations from others in their community on social media influence where they choose to shop or dine. Sharing a favorite local business can be just as valuable as discovering one.

Local business owners are also encouraged to join the celebration by decorating their storefronts, creating special promotions, and sharing their own stories of entrepreneurship throughout the season. Each act of participation, whether shopping or showcasing your business, helps small businesses thrive and keeps Mason County’s economy strong.
