Chamber Champions Shop Small Throughout Holiday Season

The Chamber is proud to once again champion the Shop Small movement, celebrating Small Business Season from November 1 through December 31 and Small Business Saturday on November 28, 2026. Both initiatives highlight the vital role small businesses play in our community and reinforce the Chamber’s commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs and business owners.

As an American Express Neighborhood Champion for Small Business Saturday, the Chamber joins organizations across the country in encouraging residents to support local businesses during the holiday season. The Chamber has participated in the Small Business Saturday Coalition since the initiative began in 2010, reflecting its longstanding commitment to promoting local businesses and strengthening Mason County’s economy.

Small Business Season is about more than shopping; it’s about supporting the dreams and livelihoods of our neighbors. Each purchase at a small business creates a ripple effect, supporting local jobs, strengthening our economy, and fostering connections throughout the community. When you choose to shop, dine, or do business locally, you’re investing in more than a product or service; you’re investing in people.

As part of Small Business Season, the Chamber also participates in Small Business Saturday, a nationwide initiative that encourages consumers to support local businesses during the holiday season. Since its inception in 2010, shoppers have spent more than $241 billion at small businesses on Small Business Saturday. The day has grown into a movement that helps small businesses reach new customers, connect with their communities, and share what makes them unique. This year, Small Business Saturday falls on November 28, 2026.

According to the 2025 American Express Small Business Economic Impact Study, 68 cents of every dollar spent at a small business stays within the local community, supporting jobs, local suppliers, and additional economic activity. The benefits extend beyond the economy, as local businesses also support schools, nonprofits, and community initiatives through sponsorships, donations, and volunteerism. With many small business owners continuing to navigate economic challenges, this community support remains essential.

Chamber President & CEO Deidre Peterson encourages shoppers to make the most of this season:

Our local businesses need your support. We know that rising costs are affecting households and businesses alike, making every purchasing decision that much more important. Choosing to shop, dine, and do business locally whenever possible helps sustain jobs, strengthen our economy, and support the businesses that contribute so much to Mason County.

A separate 2025 American Express Shop Small Impact Study found that 95% of surveyed small business owners agree that community support helps their businesses thrive. Small Business Saturday offers an opportunity to strengthen those connections and encourage customers to choose local throughout the holiday season. The message is clear: when you choose local, every purchase has a purpose.

The Chamber invites everyone to take part in Small Business Season by exploring local shops, restaurants, and service providers. Discover a business you haven’t visited before, invite friends to shop or dine locally, and share your favorite finds on social media using #ShopSmall. Whether you’re shopping for gifts, planning a holiday gathering, or choosing a local service provider, there are plenty of ways to make supporting small businesses part of your holiday traditions.

To find local retailers and service providers, explore the searchable Member Directory and follow the Chamber on Facebook for updates throughout the season.

We can make this holiday season truly meaningful because every purchase has a purpose.

Local business owners are also encouraged to join the celebration by decorating their storefronts, creating special promotions, and sharing their own stories of entrepreneurship throughout the season. Each act of participation, whether shopping or showcasing your business, helps small businesses thrive and keeps Mason County’s economy strong.
