Chamber Seeks Flower Funds from Community

The Chamber is Community: HCC worker hangs a flower basket

In the spirit of community, the Chamber is launching a heartfelt appeal to residents and businesses to support its annual Beautification Program. The program, a symbol of civic pride, graces our streets with vibrant summer flower baskets. As the Chamber aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal of our beloved city, it is calling upon the generosity of the community to ensure the program’s continued success.

At its peak, the beautification program saw more than one hundred baskets hung along the city streets. As costs have risen and community support has waned, that number has dwindled to just a few dozen. The cost to purchase and water a flower basket for the season is nearly $300. The gorgeous baskets are placed just prior to the June Forest Festival and hang proudly throughout town until OysterFest is celebrated in October.

We still need to raise nearly $11,000 to make our goal for the 2024 summer flower baskets. The funds we raise right now will direct if and how many flower baskets we can hang this year. Funds raised May through December will dictate how many baskets we can provide in the following year. That means, for this year, we will be reaching out to the community twice: once in hopes of hanging baskets for 2024; and again to make plans for 2025.

Gifts of any amount are appreciated! You can make a gift online by using the button below, visit the Chamber office at 215 W Railroad Ave, or mail a check payable to SMCCF, PO Box 2389, Shelton, WA 98584. Donations can be made toward beautification overall or, for $300 each, you can sponsor basket on behalf of a business or designate a gift in memoriam of a loved one.

Donations directly contribute to preserving and expanding this beloved tradition, allowing our city to continue bloom for residents and visitors alike. The success of the Beautification Program hinges on the collective efforts of our community.

Community partners are paramount to carry out this plan year over year. Specifically, the ongoing support of City of Shelton, Hood Canal Communications, Mason PUD 3, and Skookum Rotary who contribute time, money, and resources to the setup and maintenance of beautification projects. We would also like to thank Tozier Brothers Ace Hardware for their continued partnership. While they can no longer provide the watering service, they still work closely with their suppliers to get us deeply discounted pricing on the baskets and they collaborate on a flower basket sale, during which a small amount from every sale goes back to the beautification program.

And, of course, or thanks goes out to those of you who have already made your gift. Thank you!
