Work on HWY 101, Olympic Loop Will See Detours, Delays

Published on

If your summer plans include traveling around the Olympic Peninsula, you’ll likely see numerous road work for fish passage and bridge or road preservation projects.

The work in Mason County is limited to Sections of US 101 south of Shelton, which will see a new roadway surface this summer. That paving will take place between Shelton and Olympia.

The project will remove and replace worn sections of pavement along approximately seven miles of US 101. Travelers will see single-lane closures between milepost 353 in Mason County and milepost 362 in Thurston County. Along with single-lane closures in both directions, you’ll see the speed limit reduced from 60 mph to 45 mph.

There are numerous projects planned along the Olympic Loop, which is a popular travel way for visitors during the summer months. Travelers headed to Washington’s Pacific Ocean beaches or around the Olympic Peninsula will need to add extra travel time.

WSDOT will make improvements to sections of US 101, US 12 and State Routes 8, 104, 112 and116 and in Grays Harbor, Mason, Jefferson and Clallam counties.
