Chamber, Partners Convene Legislative for Sendoff

On Thursday, January 5, the Shelton-Mason County and North Mason Chambers of Commerce, EDC of Mason County and City of Shelton hosted a Legislative Sendoff for Senator Drew MacEwen (R-Union) and Representative Travis Couture (R-Allyn) of the 35th Legislative District. Representative Dan Griffey (R-Belfair) planned to attend but was unable to participate due to illness.

The program was made possible thanks to Shelton Yacht Club at Oakland Bay Marina, who provided the venue for the event, and sponsor City of Shelton. Guests were invited to stay afterward and talk with legislators one-on-one.

Senator MacEwen most recently served as a member of the House Republican leadership team, where he was assistant floor leader and the ranking member of the Commerce and Gaming Committee and the assistant ranking member on the House Appropriations Committee. In the House, he also served on the Joint Committee on Veterans’ and Military Affairs and the Joint Task Force on Economic Resilience of Maritime and Manufacturing in Washington. As you know by now, Senator MacEwen has been elected to fill the seat vacated by longtime Senator Tim Sheldon.

Drew served in the United States Navy for six years. He is a graduate from its Nuclear Propulsion Program and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Excelsior College. He is the founder and president of the investment firm Falcon Financial Inc. and is the managing partner for Mountain Lakes Capital, having also investing in other Mason and Kitsap County businesses. Drew is active in many community organizations, including Rotary, Love INC, and is a past president of the Shelton-Mason County Chamber of Commerce.

Representative Dan Griffey began his career of service as a volunteer firefighter at the age of 16 and was then the youngest EMT in Washington State. He continues now professionally as a lieutenant firefighter with Central Mason Fire & EMS. Dan has been a volunteer for multiple organizations including United Way and Habitat for Humanity. He has participated in Turning Pointe Survivor Advocacy Center’s Adopt-A -Room program and served meals at St. David’s in Shelton. 

Griffey currently served in 2022 as the assistant ranking member on the Local Government Committee and serves on the Public Safety and Transportation committees; he was also been re-elected as the House Republican Whip. During his tenure he has passed legislation to protect survivors of sexual assault, fight crime, support our logging and shellfish industries, and to ensure government responsiveness and transparency.

Representative Travis Couture
(R-Allyn)

Representative Drew MacEwen is the newest addition to our legislative delegation, earning the seat vacated by then Rep. MacEwen. He is a U.S. Navy Veteran and is currently the Program Manager for Lockheed Martin at Naval Submarine Base Bangor. He earned an MBA and BA in Organizational Leadership from Brandman University. He has volunteered with several local organizations including United Way, Kiwanis, Habitat for Humanity, and North Mason Schools and he is a supporter of Turning Pointe Survivor Advocacy Center and Care Net. Travis has been politically active in the 35th district for some years now, and is a former Chairman Mason County Republican Party.
